The building’s distinctive terraced form is a creative response to the site's setback regulations. This cascading structure gave us a unique opportunity to address a key finding from our WorkVitamins analysis: a desire among staff for greater access to daylight and expansive views. Consequently, we oriented all workspaces to look out onto a series of lush roof gardens. These low-maintenance landscapes feature seasonal planting, ensuring the views are rich and varied throughout the year. Select terraces are accessible, offering tranquil spaces for staff to enjoy lunch or hold meetings in the open air. At ground level, the building engages with both staff and the public. It houses dynamic demonstration and seminar spaces, alongside a museum celebrating the company's 100 years of innovation. A modern canteen serves both the new centre and the neighbouring facility, with staff able to cross between them via a connecting skywalk. A key industrial requirement, a large, filtered smokestack, is transformed into a striking sculptural element. It rises through the heart of the building, its form visible from the museum below, artfully connecting the building's purpose with its design. By relocating the car park to the basement, we liberated a prominent corner of the site. projects: 1. The first type occurs when a client outgrows their current space and wishes to move to a new location, allowing for a fresh design. 2. The second type involves clients who feel their existing workspace needs a programmatic change and intend to revitalize certain areas. 3. The third type is when a client takes over an already occupied space from another company. The first type of project is typically the easiest, as it allows for a clean slate within the interior envelope of the building. The second type can become more complex, as it requires reorganization of employees and programmatic elements during construction. The third type, where the client assumes an existing space, poses the greatest challenge. It requires a flexible design to integrate new needs into a space that is largely already complete. The challenge here extends beyond design to handle construction budgets, as the main reason for taking over an existing space is to minimize changes.In this particular project, the client wanted to incorporate a Japanese aesthetic into an already well-structured space. However, the existing color palette was dull and monotonous. Additionally, there was a request to incorporate elements of corporate branding and identity features.While global corporations often aim to be culturally sensitive in their local offices, one common pitfall is that the cultural aspect may only serve as a superficial visual reference. To address this, we proposed two conceptual ideas: kintsugi, which celebrates the beauty of imperfection, and kumiko as a visual element. Kintsugi, for instance, uses gold to repair broken pottery, illustrating that even the restoration of damaged or old objects can enhance their beauty. Our goal was to demonstrate that we were not merely erasing the history of the previous office but rather complementing the existing space with a warmer color palette and carefully selected materials. We aimed to show how the new environment could acquire a distinct character through these changes. We installed the kumiko pattern throughout the office, using it as a backdrop in a new multipurpose room and as a privacy film in the internal meeting rooms and phone booths. In the reception area, we created a large back-lit metal panel cut in a kumiko pattern. LED strip lights were added to create various seasonal scenes featuring the kumiko design. オフィスのインテリアデザインは、次の 3 種類のプロジェクトに分類できます 　まず初めにクライアントは働くスペースが手狭になり、引っ越して新しいオフィスを設計したいと考えている場合です。2つ目は現在のワークスペースのプログラム変更が必要だと感じており、スペースの一部を活性化したいと考えているケース、３つ目はクライアントが既存のスペースを他社から引き継ぐケースがあります。 最初のタイプのプロジェクトは、建物の内部空間で、ほぼ白紙の状態から設計を開始できるため、最も簡単です。2 番目のオプションは、建設中に従業員やその他のプログラムによる再構築が必要になるため、より複雑になる可能性があります。3 番目のオプションについては、すでにほぼ完成しているスペースに新しいニーズを創造するため柔軟な設計が必要となるためとても困難です。 今回の課題は、既存のスペースを引き継いだことにより、デザインだけでなく建設予算の関係であまり大きな変更はできませんでした。既存のスペースを引き継いだこのプロジェクトでは、スペース的にはほぼ完璧でしたが全体のトーンがモノトーンに近い色で構成されていましたので、このスペースに日本的なタッチを加えたいと考えました。さらに企業ブランディング、企業アイデンティティのグラフィック要素を内装に取り込みたいという要望もありました。 グローバル企業が現地支社に対してその土地の文化を取り入れたいという考え方は珍しいことではありません。しかし文化的要素をそのままグラフィックに反映すると空間デザインの視点から見たとき、単なる視覚表現として捉えられてしまう場合があります。これを避けるために、私たちは日本の不完全さの中にある美しさの象徴である金継ぎと視覚的要素としての組子という 2 つのアイデアを提案しました。 例えば、金継ぎでは壊れた陶器を修復するために金を使用して、欠陥を強調します。壊れた古い物体を修復することさえも、その美しさの一部になり得る（そしてそうすべきである）ことを意味します。 私たちは、単に以前のオフィスの歴史を消去したのではなく、文化的要素を温かみのあるカラーパレットと考察を重ねた新しいマテリアルで既存のスペースを補完したいと考えました。それを通して新しい空間として生まれ変わることを示しました。 組子模様をオフィス全体に設置、また新設の多目的室の背景として使用したほか、社内の会議室や電話ボックスのプライバシーフィルムとして追加しました。 &nbsp;BuiltPhotos : &nbsp;Vincent Hecht Bosch has completed this custom-built headquarters and R&amp;D office in Yokohama in 2024, covering an area of 53,000 square meters. The facility spans seven floors and will accommodate 2,000 employees in the sales, marketing, and R&amp;D departments. The ground floor features a showroom and their signature Bosch Café 1886, relocated from Shibuya. Our team was awarded the design for the kitchen area, which includes a canteen with approximately 550 seats. Over the past two years, we meticulously crafted the design for a fully equipped industrial 700 square meter kitchen that features a large main kitchen, cold and frozen storage, preparation rooms, and a scullery capable of preparing over 1,500 meals daily. We aimed to challenge the conventional concept of a large canteen by creating various nooks for staff to use not only during lunch breaks but also throughout the day for informal meetings and collaboration among departments. To achieve a multifunctional space, we designed diverse seating arrangements, including round tables and benches along a central ribbon that spans the length of the area. Additionally, we incorporated bright yellow acoustic fabric nooks to encourage small group conversations. A terrace has also been included for staff to enjoy the outdoors. Significant attention was given to the layout of the serving stations to ensure smooth traffic flow. Each of the four stations offers specific food options that change daily. Behind the kitchen serving islands, we created back-of-house corridors for the efficient delivery of various dishes prepared in the main kitchen. Main Touchdown Zone: The core operational area with height-adjustable and team-work oriented desks. Two phone booths separate this zone from the work Café. The Quiet Zone: Dedicated to deep focus. Here, staff enjoy increased privacy with higher-partitioned, height-adjustable desks, ensuring concentration for critical tasks. For this project, we quickly developed a plan that includes three combinable training rooms located near the reception area, a call center, and several enclosed offices. This left us with two large spaces designated as free-address areas. On the eastern side of the building, structural columns create a challenging leftover space. To make use of this area, we decided to place phone booths between the columns, resulting in six nooks that support collaborative teamwork along the windows. This zone features a textured gray carpet, a gray-painted ceiling, and most of the furniture is also in gray shades. Between the enclosed rooms and the team spaces, we installed a series of touch-down desks, varying both the tables and seating options. Some desks come equipped with wireless chargers, while others have stools or are height-adjustable. At the end of the free-address zone, we added a multifunctional café-kitchen. Additionally, we created a quiet zone where all workstations are enclosed with partitions. This area also features some height-adjustable desks. As suggested by its name, the quiet area is designed for those who need to concentrate on their tasks without the distractions of noise or phone calls. 建物の東側では、構造柱の影響で使いにくい余剰スペースが生じた。そこで、柱の間に電話ブースを設置し、窓沿いにはチームワークを促進する6つのコーナースペースを生み出した。このゾーンには質感のあるグレーのカーペットと天井を採用し、家具のほとんどもグレーの色調で統一されている。密閉型の部屋とチームスペースの間には、用途に応じて配置を変更できるテーブル、座席、タッチダウンデスクシリーズを設置しました。 一部のデスクにはワイヤレス充電器を備え、他のデスクには高さ調整可能なスツールを配置しています。また、フリーアドレスゾーンの端には多機能キッチンを設置し、仕切りで囲まれた静かなゾーンも併設。このエリアにも高さ調整可能なデスクをいくつか配置しました。静かなゾーンはその名の通り、雑音や電話の影響を受けずに集中できる環境を提供するよう設計されています。 For some of those projects, the management premise was that a vaccine would soon signal the return of business back to the Pre-Covid workplace. For those offices, the design included temporary solutions such as physical distancing and other protocols that could be changed once the world would return to normal. This particular project also started pre-Covid but took a different route. Together with the client, we developed an alternative, holistic, future-orientated approach towards the office. This resulted in a space that is more than just a furniture solution but an integrated conceptual space in which IT, acoustics and lighting design all takes part to form a space in which users can have a choice of how they want to work. The emphasis of this project is on the focus of the individual experience of space. This project comes to two conclusions: The Covid curfew restrictions have shown that most office work is already performed mainly in a digital environment (computer, phone etc…) and is not limited to a specific physical location, work can be done anywhere The role of the office is in its communal, social function; a space to bring people together, to express what a company stands for. Thus the importance of design as an expression of an authentic message of how and where a company wants to let their employees work. コロナ禍の中、私たちはコーポレートオフィスのデザインを続けました。いくつかのプロジェクトは、ワクチンの作成によってコロナ以前のワーキング環境に戻ることを前提としました。このような場合、デザインを考える中で、特に重要視したのはソーシャルディスタンスという点と、世界が再びコロナ以前の通常を取り戻した時に、より速やかに元の環境に戻せる点でした。 このプロジェクトは元はコロナウィルス感染拡大前に始めたものです。あらゆる可能性を踏まえて　全体を捉える、未来志向なアプローチをクライアントと共に考えました。 結果的に、IT、音響、照明の全てが、ユーザーが使いたいように使えるスペースを作り 上げています。このプロジェクトの重点は、一人一人が使いやすいスペースをデザイン する事でした。 project is located on a, for Tokyo, rather large floor plate consisting of 4085m2 open office space with stunning 360-degree panoramic views. We suggested dividing the space into four distinctive zones. Each corner of these zones was marked with one of the Snowflake branding colours. This mnemonic, we argued, would help the staff to orientate themselves on this large floor plate. The client called these semi-enclosed zones “lodges”. Following the Snowflake theme we designed the lodges to be warm and colourful, while we kept the open office space in a cool white with blue accents. The lodges are relatively close to the open office giving the staff the opportunity for internal meetings in enclosed rooms or providing them with different more casual types of workspaces. A lot of effort was placed on the artwork which was developed by the Snowflake team. The snow and ski artwork followed the overall theme of the Snowflake’s cool Arctic winter branding theme. The main lodge is a large cafeteria with a dark wood-clad and blue-tiled enclosed kitchen and millwork providing a space for the staff to have lunch. While talking with the client and spending time at this wonderful site, the image of a hut as described in a children’s book kept coming to my mind. As we walked amidst the dense undergrowth on a spring day, I imagined a hut, hidden, deep in a dark forest or on an uninhabited island, ready for adventure. Somehow the images one has as a child remain strongest throughout life. Thinking back on my summer as a ten-year-old what comes to mind are the hours of playing on the beach, eating ice cream out of colourful plastic coconut-shaped containers, lazying around in hammocks and sleep-overs in a small garden hut in a friend’s large garden. These “hut-memories” are some of the strongest impressions&nbsp; I have of my childhood. The Shimoda Hut House is as the name suggests: a collection of three huts placed on a platform looking out over Shimoda Bay. The programme dictated these huts spontaneously; the client is renting out his house to Airbnb clients. There is a need for privacy for three couples as well as a social function to spend time together. The limited construction budget suggested a platform to bridge the steep slope onto which the project is set. This platform then provides the basis for the three pre-fabricated huts that also support the roof terrace above. The huts are self-contained guest rooms with a queen-size bed and shower and sink. A bunk bed is placed above the bathroom. Each hut has an exterior window with a distinct view and a small private terrace. The position of the huts creates nooks within the common space in which a kitchen with a round dining table, a library and a seating area are placed. An exterior staircase gives access to a large roof terrace with 360-degree views. The roofs of the huts punctuate the terrace adding to the dream-like nature of this project. 下田のハットハウスは、その名が示すように、下田湾を一望できるプラットフォーム上に配置された3つの小屋の集合体です。プログラムにはこれらの小屋が必要で、クライアントは彼の家を民泊のクライアント用に貸し出す予定です。3組のカップルにはそれぞれプライバシーが必要であり、一緒に時間を過ごすための社交場所も必要です。限られた建設予算から、プロジェクトが設置される急斜面を橋渡しするプラットフォームが提案されました。このプラットフォームは、屋根の上にある3つのプレハブ小屋の基礎を提供します。 sign-up, and training spaces. The basement floor is accessible via an internal staircase where a break-out space, toilets, and workstations are located. Most of the enclosed spaces have a double skin of expanded wire mesh panels attached to a partition with frosted glass. The combination of glass and mesh offer privacy while maintaining a visual connection with the main space. The wire mesh panels have also been used as a decorative feature in the basement to clad a back-lit wall. Wood cement boards are clad on many of the walls to improve the enclosed rooms as well as open space acoustics. Due to heavy foot traffic within the venue, a durable grey Marmoleum is used as flooring. A variety of Japanese stuccoes that are normally used as a spray-on exterior cladding of wooden houses have been used to bring accent texture and colors on a few walls and columns. Careful lighting accentuates these different textures of the space. delivery bikers can park there bicycles inside within the reception space. The main waiting and on-boarding space are designed as a plaza around which support spaces are placed. A wall which includes a hidden door is created out of cement board panels which are installed to provide good acoustics. Expanded mesh panels are used to close-off a storage room. The mesh is also placed in front of glass partitions in the main room. The frosted sheet on the glass behind the mesh provides privacy while making sure the depth of space is not lost. Space has a 3.5-meter ceiling which is painted black.
